This gorgeous '70 Road Runner has recently undergone a complete 2 Year Nut-and-Bolt Rotisserie Restoration completed by a 25-year Chrysler certified master technician in July of 2013. It features its original Numbers Matching 383-cid, 335-hp V-8 engine backed to its original Numbers Matching 3-Speed 727 Torque-Flite Automatic Transmission and 8.75-inch Sure Grip rear end w/ 3.23:1 Gear Ratio. Everything has either been restored or replaced. The car is in showroom condition with the underside looking as good as the top. Documentation shows 3 owners and approximately 82,000 original miles.
Info on the Restoration:
The body was completely stripped, media blasted and then sprayed with DP90 epoxy primer. The full trunk pan, trunk extensions and lower quarters were replaced with all new Goodmark sheet metal. The underside was completely stripped of all factory undercoating. The zero-rust body was then treated to a beautiful coat of the original color Tor Red outside, inside and complete bottom. It was then clear-coated on the outside and engine compartment. The original front grille has been restored. It has new AMD front and rear bumpers and all of the stainless trim has been polished to a mirror shine. It has new inside and outside door handles. All of the window regulators, door internals, heater box, vent box, bumper brackets, tag bracket, headlamp buckets, hood latch, trunk latch and strikers have been restored. All of the splash shields and insulation on the car are brand-new.
The original Numbers Matching 383-ci, 335-hp V-8 engine has been completely rebuilt. It has been upgraded with Mopar performance electronic ignition and a Mopar performance .474 lift purple shaft camshaft. The exhaust is an all new TTI 2.5-inches with X-pipe and slip-fit connections. The correct number Holley carb has been fully rebuilt. The original 22-inch, four-core radiator has been re-cored. All cooling system hoses are new Mopar reproductions. The fuel system is all new including new pump, new tank, hose stainless steel fuel tank sending unit and new fuel lines from Fine Lines. The factory power steering system has been restored with new pressure and return hoses, rebuilt gear, pump and restored original steering column.
The original Numbers Matching 3-Speed 727 Automatic Transmission has been rebuilt with all NOS Mopar gaskets, seals and clutches. The speedometer gear has been changed to be correct for the tire size and has a new Mopar speedometer cable. All of the shifter and kick down linkage has also been restored.
The original and correct 8.75-inch 3.23 Sure Grip rear end has been fully rebuilt with new Mopar performance heavy-duty rear springs, rear mounting clips and Mopar Nos rear shocks. The driveshaft has also been restored and has new U-joints.
The front brakes have been upgraded to manual front disc with an adjustable proportioning valve for the rear drum brakes. The original rear 11-inch drum brakes are all new with Mopar shoes, springs and wheel cylinders. All brake lines and cylinder hoses are brand new from Fine Lines. The Road Runner has new parking brake cables and a restored parking brake ratchet.
The front suspension has been completely rebuilt with all new upper and lower ball joints; inner and outer tie rod ends, pitman and idler arms, lower control arm bushings, sway bar links and bushings. All hard parts have been media cleaned before they were painted.
The wheels and tires have been upgraded with 15-x7-inch on the front and 15-x8- inch on the rear. The rims are Mopar steel wheels powder-coated jet black with original Mopar Plymouth Division "dog dish" hubcaps. The tires are new BF Goodrich 235/70/15 on the front and 275/60/15 on the rear.
The interior is all new. Legendary front and rear seat covers, door and 1/4 trim panels and sail panels. The front and rear seats also have all new padding underneath the covers. The headliner is new NOS Mopar and has a new rear package tray with insulation. The carpet is new, trim parts are correct, grain carpet with new sill plates. The dash has been completely restored with a new dash pad, new Mopar dash trim bezels and the gauges have been restored by Auto Instruments.
All wiring harnesses have been completely gone through pin by pin and connector by connector and re-taped with either Polyken or Tesa tape. The engine harness has been custom made to fit the new electronic ignition. Has a new Mopar coil and voltage regulator, restored original starter, restored original wiper motor, remanufactured alternator, new battery cables, Mopar windshield washer tank and pump and restored original Beep Beep horn. The front headlight bulbs and front parking lamp assemblies are all new. The side marker lamps, rear taillights and reverse lamps have all been restored.
As you can see this car is a true work of art done by this 25-year Chrysler certified master technician that has been working on Chrysler products since before he could drive. This is the fourth car he has done in the past four years. Restoring Mopar's is his true passion and the results show.
